Thibaut Courtois off to Barcelona for £50million
THIBAUT COURTOIS has been offered to Barcelona for £50MILLION as Chelsea look at Fraser Forster and Jack Butland, according to reports in Spain.
According to a Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim Courtois has informed Blues technical director, Michael Emenalo, of his desire to play Champions League football which is something he will not get at Stamford Bridge.
With Barca set to offload Marc-Andre ter Stegen, possibly to Manchester City, Chelsea have given the Catalans the option of taking Courtois but for the hefty price.
The Spanish newspaper also allege that incoming boss Antonio Conte sees the Blues No1 as far from indispensable and has already sounded out Forster or Butland as potential replacements.
Courtois’ level has dropped dramatically this season, after a stellar 2014-15.
He has already been sent off twice this season, and has made no secret of his desire to play in Europe’s elite competition.
Barca will see Courtois’ signing as the first step in a rebuilding process likely to take place this summer.
Luis Enrique’s men were on course for an unprecedented back-to-back Treble in late March.
However, a dramatic recent collapse in form saw them eliminated from the Champions League and blow a nine-point lead in La Liga.
Should Chelsea lose their first-choice goalkeeper, it appears they will look domestically for a replacement.
Southampton goalkeeper, Forster, has enjoyed another fine campaign and is a certainty to go to Euro 2016 as No2 to Joe Hart.
