President Buhari resumes work, informs the NASS
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday formally resumed work in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, after a six-day vacation.
Buhari had returned to the country on Wednesday from London where he spent the short vacation that started on Friday.
On resumption on Thursday, Buhari who had written the National Assembly, asking Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to act in his absence, played host to his counterpart from Germany, Joachim Gauck.
He also took briefings from some of his top aides.
His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, later issued a statement announcing the President’s resumption.
Adesina noted that Buhari had since written the National Assembly again to inform the lawmakers of his resumption.
The three-paragraph statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday resumed work at the State House in Abuja after a 6-day vacation.
“In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution, President Buhari has sent a formal notice of his resumption to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“President Buhari was on vacation from February 5th, 2016 to February 10th, 2016.”
Shortly before the statement was issued, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang, was sighted in the Presidential Villa.
Enang entered the President’s office and returned about five minutes later with a brown envelope apparently containing the letter to the National Assembly.
